Common questions

A course will not route, and says it needs more forecast than is available
That is the honest answer rather than a failure. Global forecasts run about six to seven days ahead, so a passage the boat cannot finish inside that window cannot be routed yet. Shorten the course, or wait until the start is closer.
The route hugs the coast more than I would
Vane routes on the fastest track the polar and the forecast allow, with land avoidance at roughly 400 metres. It has no view on how close to a lee shore you are comfortable. Add a waypoint to hold it offshore.
My marks moved slightly
Race documents often put a start on a jetty or a finish inside a marina, which the chart reads as land. Vane moves each mark to the nearest connected navigable water and tells you how far it moved.
The wind arrows disagree with the forecast numbers
They should not. The arrows show wind direction as it blows, and forecasts are quoted as the direction wind comes from, so they read opposite by convention. If the two genuinely disagree, send us the position and time.
I did not get a confirmation email
Check spam first. If it is still missing, open the panel and choose to send it again. Nothing is lost in the meantime: an unconfirmed account works normally, it just cannot take a paid plan.
I want to cancel
Bought on the web, open the plan panel and choose Manage or cancel. Bought in the app, cancel from Subscriptions in your iPhone Settings, as Apple handles that billing. Either way the plan runs to the end of the period you paid for.
I want my account gone
Open the plan panel and choose Delete my account. It removes your boats, your plan and your history immediately and cannot be undone.

Where the numbers come from

Wind comes from NOAA's GFS and ECMWF's IFS and AIFS open data, blended by how each has been scoring lately. Currents, waves and tide come from Open-Meteo. Terrain and bathymetry come from the AWS open data terrain tiles. Library polars are approximations of a boat type, not measured for your boat; a debrief can learn a better one from your own tracks.

A forecast is a forecast

Vane is a planning tool. It is not a navigation system, it is not certified for safety of life at sea, and it does not replace official forecasts, charts or your own judgement. Check the marine forecast for your area before you go.
